Hobie Fishing Series 15 Australian Championships 2024

Get ready for one of the most thrilling events in the fishing calendar! The Hobie Fishing Series 15 Australian Championship is approaching an electrifying climax at the Camden Haven Inlet on the New South Wales mid-north coast. Spread over five action-packed days, the championship kicks off with anglers arriving and a lively Welcome Function and Safety Briefing on November 13, 2024, followed by a Pre-Fish on November 14. Then, the real quest for the title of Australian Champion begins over the next three days on November 15, 16, and 17, 2024.

The Hobie Kayak Fishing Series has come a long way since its inception in 2009. Over the past 15 seasons, it has grown into Australia’s premier kayak catch-and-release fishing series. With each passing year, it has only gotten bigger and better, cementing its place as the top kayak fishing series in the nation.

Since 2009, thousands of passionate anglers have taken part. The inaugural year saw four tournaments in Gold Coast, Mooloolaba, Sydney, and Forster. Since then, many exciting new locations across Australia have joined the lineup.

Series 15 took anglers on a fantastic journey across the country. The opening round saw 122 enthusiastic participants competing at the legendary Bemm River in East Gippsland, Victoria. Round 2 brought the action closer to Hobie’s heartland at St Georges Basin, NSW, where 85 anglers faced one of the toughest fisheries on the tour. Tasmania hosted the next two rounds during the Tassie Tour, showcasing the stunning Little Swanport and Swan River. Back on the mainland, the series headed to the Mid-Coast to fish the Brisbane Water in Woy Woy, then to Australia’s largest city, Sydney and the Georges River. Round 7 in Mallacoota VIC was rescheduled due to predicted severe / gale force winds in the region. Anglers then enjoyed the glitz, glamour, and beautiful weather of the Gold Coast, QLD, before returning to the much-loved Forster, NSW. The final event revisited last year’s Australian Championship location, Mallacoota in East Gippsland, Victoria.

While the East Coast rounds captivated everyone’s attention, our associated series in Western Australia and South Australia added to the excitement with rounds on the Glenelg, Blackwood, and Kalgan Rivers.

With such a diverse range of venues, the Hobie Kayak Fishing Series continues to attract more and more participants. Tournaments that once saw thirty to forty anglers now regularly exceed 90 competitors, and many events even top over 120 kayak anglers.

The grand finale at the Australian Championships promises intense competition as the nation’s best kayak anglers fight for cash and prizes over three days. Each day, competitors will hit the water in identical custom-built Hobie Mirage Compass Kayaks equipped with:

• Power-Pole Micro Anchors
• BerleyPro gear
• and an array of Hobie Accessories

Anglers will only be allowed to use cast-and-retrieved lures to catch Yellowfin Bream, with each angler weighing in up to three live fish daily at 2 pm. After being weighed, the fish are carefully returned to the water. After three thrilling days, the angler with the highest combined three-day weight will be crowned The Hobie Fishing Series 15 Australian Champion.
